What couriers won't carry
- Firecrackers, sparklers and anything explosive or flammable — never accepted, by post or courier.
- Oil, ghee and other liquids in loose containers — often refused; if allowed, they must be sealed and packed to stop leaks. Ask first.
- Perfumes and aerosol sprays — usually treated as flammable and refused.
- Cash and jewellery — many couriers don't accept them or won't cover them if lost.
- Loose batteries and power banks — accepted only under special rules, if at all.
India Post's list of prohibited articles is the official reference for Speed Post; private couriers have similar rules, so ask at the counter or check the booking app before you pack.
How to pack Diwali gifts so they arrive in one piece
- Use a strong box, one size bigger than the gift — not a thin gift box on its own.
- Cushion all sides with bubble wrap or crumpled paper so nothing moves when you shake it.
- Sweets: keep them in the sealed shop box, put that inside a plastic bag, and send milk sweets only to nearby cities. Dry sweets, dry fruits and namkeen travel much better.
- Diyas, glass and idols: wrap each piece separately and mark the box Fragile (handle with care).
- Address: write the full address with PIN code and a phone number the courier can call. Keep a photo of the label.
