Frequently asked questions

How do you work out the route from PIN codes?

We use the All India Pincode Directory published by the Department of Posts on data.gov.in to find each PIN code's post office, district, state and location, then measure the straight-line distance. Road distances are longer, so near a distance limit we show both possible Speed Post prices.

Is GST included in the Speed Post price?

No. The published tariff is before GST; GST is charged on top as applicable. The counter receipt shows the final amount.

What counts as 'local'?

Local rates apply when the item is booked and delivered within the same local delivery area. If you aren't sure which distance band applies, the post office counter will confirm.

Why don't you show Delhivery, Blue Dart or DTDC prices?

Private couriers don't publish one standard price list — rates depend on the route, service, pickup, your account and current offers. Use the volumetric weight above, then get a quote on the courier's official website or at its counter.

What is volumetric weight?

A large, light box takes up space in a vehicle, so couriers charge for its size as well. Volumetric weight = length × width × height (in cm) ÷ a divisor — commonly 5000 for express/air. You pay for whichever is higher: actual or volumetric weight.

How do I reduce the chargeable weight?

Use the smallest box that protects the item, avoid oversized outer cartons, and measure after packing — every centimetre on each side adds up.
