Is this courier message a scam?

Paste a delivery SMS, WhatsApp or e-mail message. We check it for the warning signs used in fake India Post, courier and 'parcel seized' scams — on your device, without opening any link.

Checked on your device. The message isn't sent anywhere or saved, and links are never opened.

Six signs of a fake delivery message

  • A link in a message you didn't expect

Real tracking lives on the courier's own website or the shop's app. Type the address yourself.

  • A small fee to release or redeliver a parcel

₹25 or ₹49 "redelivery" or "customs" fees are used to steal card details.

  • A deadline

"Update within 24 hours or the parcel will be returned" is designed to rush you.

  • Requests for OTP, UPI PIN, KYC or bank details

No courier needs these to deliver a parcel. Share a delivery OTP only at your door.

  • Threats of police, customs or arrest

"Your parcel had drugs — stay on video call" is the digital-arrest scam. Hang up.

  • Instructions to install an app

AnyDesk, TeamViewer or an APK file gives a stranger control of your phone.

Frequently asked questions

Does India Post send SMS asking to update my address?

The government's PIB Fact Check has clarified that India Post does not send messages asking you to update your address through a link. Messages like that are phishing.

Is my message stored when I use this checker?

No. The check runs entirely in your browser. The text isn't sent to our server or anyone else, and links in it are never opened.

The checker found no red flags. Is the message genuine?

Not necessarily. The checker looks for common warning signs; scammers change their wording. If you weren't expecting a parcel, ignore the message and check any real order in the shop's app.

Where do I report a fake courier message?

Report suspicious calls, SMS or WhatsApp messages on Chakshu on the Department of Telecommunications' Sanchar Saathi portal (sancharsaathi.gov.in). If you've lost money, call 1930 straight away and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.

I clicked the link but didn't enter anything. What should I do?

Close the page and don't enter any details. If a file downloaded, don't open it. If you did enter card or bank details, call your bank to block them and call 1930.
