Tips and common problems

The 13-character format

Most India Post articles use the international postal format: two letters, nine digits and “IN” — for example EE123456785IN. The ninth digit is a check digit, so CheckMyOrder can spot many typing mistakes before you search.

Why there's no live status on {brand}

India Post's public tracker asks for a CAPTCHA. We don't bypass CAPTCHAs or other access controls, so we link you to the official tracker instead. India Post's Dak Sewa app is another official option.

International parcels

Parcels coming into India from abroad keep their original 13-character number (ending in the sender country's code). Once in India, they can usually be tracked on India Post with the same number.

About the official tracker

Tracking is in the 'Track and Trace Services' box on the India Post homepage and requires a CAPTCHA, so live lookups are not automated.

What CheckMyOrder can't do

  • Change your delivery address, reschedule delivery or arrange returns — contact India Post (Speed Post) or the seller.
  • Show more detail than India Post (Speed Post) publishes. Couriers record scans at hubs and on delivery, not continuous GPS location.
  • Speak for India Post (Speed Post). CheckMyOrder is independent and not affiliated with India Post (Speed Post).

India Post (Speed Post) tracking FAQs

What do the first two letters of a Speed Post number mean?

They indicate the service type. For example, many Speed Post articles start with “E” (such as EE or EM) and registered post articles start with “R”. The exact meaning is defined by India Post.

CheckMyOrder says my number has an invalid check digit. What now?

Re-type the number from your receipt — one digit is probably wrong. If you're sure it's correct, choose India Post manually and use the official tracker.

Who do I contact about a delayed Speed Post article?

Use India Post's official channels (website or your post office) with the consignment number and booking receipt.
